Reflection

Reflecting on this project, there are some things I wish I had considered, especially in the construction.

1. When cutting out my images, I wish I had left borders around them because they got cropped when I pasted them.

2.  Printing them larger and on paper would have been more efficient than on my photo printer. Many ended up too

small to my liking and also made the final product quite thick.

3. Based on the book being too thick, I wish I had placed the images in random places on the pages instead of just

in the centre. It would have made the compositions more interesting as I use this as a sketchbook in the future.

4. I would have liked for the cover to be longer horizontally as I had to stretch the fabric in the end to completely

 cover the pages.

Additional points:

  • Going forward, I still have to decide what to do with the sections I cut out of the book. They are

currently placed in an envelope within it, a testament to how I can’t just throw out the memories I

have cut out of my mind.

  • I have toyed with the idea of burning them and then using the charcoal to draw with. This allows

the memories to take new form and hopefully I can use the ashes to create a more positive

interpretation today. Burning the cutouts will also be therapeutic as I have stated to people in my

life today that I still feel the rage of the situation and this seems like a more productive alternative

to decking my old friend in the jaw.
