Reflection
Learning to screen print using a silkscreen was a new experience to me and while I am grateful for the opportunity to have learned this process, I found it quite difficult, and still struggled near the end of my process. One aspect of the process that I struggled with was cleaning the paint out of the screen after doing my printing. I believe I didn't clean it well enough after my first practice on newsprint, and as a result, every subsequent print wasn't as crisp. Another detail I didn't consider in my design is that some of my lines were quite thin, and didn't transfer well through the screen print.
I also had trouble aligning my design because of the extraneous variable of the printing process. Firstly, when putting my sharpie design through the photocopier, I did not anticipate the designs shrinking by a small margin. I had measured each of my sheets of paper I was printing on to be exactly 8 in by 10 inches. By the time I realized this mistake, it was too late to restart so I just went with the process. In addition to this, when trimming my images after photocopying so they would fit on the screen, I may have trimmed some of the design, ruining the continuous nature of the design. In my final products, I can clearly see the page breaks, despite trying to align them with the folds of my book.
